Credit Score Glossary: Consumer Reporting Agency

Consumer Reporting Agency: Also known as a credit report agency or credit bureau, is a company that collects and provides a consumer’s credit information.

They are designed to help creditors decide whether or not to loan money to borrowers and include a consumer’s borrowing and bill-paying habits. The three most well-known consumer reporting agencies in the U.S. are Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, and consumers can obtain a credit report from them for free.
